I was reading the story of Cain and Abel recently with a new perspective. Cain and Abel were both called into different occupations. The Bible records that Abel was a shepherd and Cain cultivated the ground. You can read Genesis 4 verses 1-6 to get a bit of context
I’ve always wondered why God refused Cain’s offering. When you read that part of the Bible it doesn’t seem like God put any criteria for how the sacrifice should look like . So why did Abel’s gift get accepted and not Cain’s. Notice the adjective used in describing Abel’s gift. - Go and read it in your Bible, I’m not putting it here 😌
Now what does this show you?
ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR GOD.
God has called you to your own space. Own your space !
“Be enthusiastic to serve the Lord, keeping your passion toward him boiling hot! Radiate with the glow of the Holy Spirit and let him fill you with excitement as you serve him.”
Romans 12:11 TPT

Cain asked God why his sacrifice was not accepted and God responded
“You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.””
Genesis 4:7 NLT

Are you doing the right thing? Like Mary I hope you’re not distracted and you have chosen to hold on to the principal thing.
Sometimes God needs you to go the extra mile. He needs you to actually know your office and to function effectively where he has placed you.
John the Baptist understood his assignment. He understood it too well. He didn’t lobby or try to improve his assignment. He stayed where he was called and did what he was asked to do. That should be our reaction
“The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!’””
Matthew 3:3 NLT
He knew he was the voice in the wilderness crying that the way of the lord will be prepared. He never tried to go higher than what he has been called to be. So don’t try to argue your way out of our office instead diligently serve God. Diligently do the work he has given you.
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”
Romans 12:1 NLT

Bring to God the type of sacrifice he will find acceptable, the type he will accept.
